SALT THEN, SALT NOW

Ceramic salt cellars that pay homage to Yuncheng Lake, China, the birth place of salt harvesting.

The Yuncheng Salt Cellar is a modular ceramic piece, designed to contain different salts and pay homage to one of the earliest locations for salt harvesting. The form was inspired by the colourful Yuncheng Salt Lake in Shanxi, China. This lake is one of the earliest known locations for salt harvesting, dating back to 6000BC and has many colours in the summer created by the algae that live in the salt water.
